Five Favourites from Katie Honnor, director of contemporary craft website madebyhandonline.com.
Lots of our makers exhibit at this show so it’s always a favourite. You always attract new makers and so it’s also a great opportunity for me to discover new work. I always treat myself to a little something and Christmas is coming, so it’s been great looking through all the exhibitors and writing a list! There are so many makers I could call favourites - here are some of the makers I’m particularly looking forward to seeing…
Leoma Drew
I’m a very happy owner of some of Leoma’s earrings. I love their perfectly made, simple shape and the contrast between the oxidized silver and flash of light from their silver tips. She has a collection of very tempting matching necklaces as well.
Bonner Leather
This contemporary leatherwork is in the StartUp section and I saw it recently at the GNCCF in Manchester. It’s incredibly well made and I love the playful combination of materials.
Sian O’Doherty
Sian won the Best New Business Award last year. I love the way she references traditional patterns and combines them with contemporary textures and colours inspired by her surrounding landscapes. Everything she makes is so tactile! I have some of her gloves and really love the look of her lambswool cushions.
Sarah J Perry
Another maker in StartUp is embroiderer Sarah J Perry and she has recently joined us at madebyhandonline. I’m really looking forward to meeting her in person and seeing her amazing, highly detailed birds. Her work is made up of many layers of stitch and she’s adding incredible 3d elements to her wallpieces as well.
Alison Graham Ceramics
I’ve seen Alison’s work before and as I love printmaking, especially stone lithography, the free style of her decoration really appeals to me. I’m really looking forward to seeing her light shades. They’re hand painted and printed porcelain and the colours and translucency look beautiful.
